  • **The glass etching has been temporarily removed during construction.** A glass etching shows the original plans for the Grove Arcade, including a full-fledged tower that was never built. Work began on the Grove Arcade in 1926 based on E.W. Grove's novel idea to create an arcade that would stretch over an entire block. Grove's fabulous architectural legacy in Asheville, including the Grove Park Inn, sprung from fortunes derived from his invention of Grove's Chill Tonic, for colds, and Grove's Bromo-Quinine, which protected against malaria.
