Located just 15 minutes (10 miles) from downtown, AVL is served by major rental car companies, including AVIS, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Alamo, as well as a host of other ground transportation providers, taxi cabs, shuttles and public transit options.
Travel by Car
Asheville is an easy drive from most of the eastern United States. It is centrally located in the epicenter of numerous major cities and accessible from the following interstates and highways: I-26, I-40 and I-240; U.S. 19/23, 25, 25A, 70, and 74.

Most roads have reopened. The route from Eastern Tennessee may look different.
- I-40 is closed near the NC/TN border.
- I-26 has reopened one lane in both directions near the NC/TN border in Erwin, TN.
- Best alternate routes add 15–30 minutes of drive time.
