Art Deco Masterpiece
Article last updated 09/12/2024
This stop pays homage to the 1929 S&W Building, Douglas Ellington’s charming masterwork, influenced by his time in Paris at École des Beaux-Arts. To capture the building's art nouveau spirit, artists Carleton Collins and James Barnhill designed a tile mosaic station marker featuring motifs from the facade. A studio in Venice, Italy, carried off the construction then shipped the finished mosaic back to Asheville.
