BLUE SPIRAL 1 presents work by exceptional artists and object makers in a light-filled, 15,000 square-foot gallery spans three floors connected by an open stairway in the heart of downtown Asheville. This spacious setting allows Blue Spiral 1 to offer considerable diversity, affording accessibility to various tastes and aesthetics.
Blue Spiral 1 maintains an extensive exhibition schedule, presenting over 20 shows annually — often featuring 4-5 simultaneously within various venues inside the gallery. Thematic group exhibitions and individual artist showcases rotate on the lower two levels five times a year, while Blue Spiral 1's upper level features a wide array of works by nearly 100 regularly represented artists including Dean Allison, Alex Gabriel Bernstein, Rick Beck, Carol Milne, Julyan Davis, Thomas Campbell, Vicki Essig, Duy Huynh, Katie Walker, Josh Copus, Charles Ladson, Frank Hursh, Mitchell Lonas, Matt Moulthrop, Philip Moulthrop, Ward H. Nichols, Brad Sells, Peggy Root, and Scott Upton.
The gallery proudly represents the estate of Will Henry Stevens (1881-1949), an early 20th century modernist inspired by spirituality in nature. His highly regarded oils and pastels are included in over 40 museum collections throughout the United States. An area in Blue Spiral's upper level is dedicated to an ongoing and changing display of available works from the Stevens estate.
