Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins is an urban cabin campground right on the French Broad River Greenway in West Asheville, NC. Sixteen cabins built into the landscape give guests easy access to the outdoors and the best parts of Asheville. The communal River Lodge anchors the property as a place to eat, drink, gather, and shop. Wrong Way aligns with Asheville’s outdoor-centered personality and offers visitors a true sense of place.
Location: Wrong Way has joined the vibrant outdoor scene along the French Broad River Greenway. Guests are able to walk out their cabin front door to experience the river and greenway just across the street, as well as walk to rock climbing facilities and several recreation parks. The location is also within easy biking/rideshare distance from the retail shops, artist studios, restaurants, and pubs of Haywood Road, the River Arts District (RAD), and downtown Asheville.
Cabins: 16 standalone A-frame cabins are “Scappalachian” in design – marrying the simplicity of Scandinavian design with the mountain warmth of the Appalachians. The amenities are intentionally kept simple (i.e. no TV’s) to encourage people to get outdoors. Each cabin accommodates up to four people with a queen bed, queen sleeper sofa, and full bathroom. Other amenities include a seated workspace, mini-fridge, microwave, electric kettle, HVAC unit, private balcony/deck, and high-speed WiFi. Wrong Way offers both standard and deluxe cabins.
River Lodge: Wrong Way’s two-story River Lodge is a communal gathering space available to both guests and locals. It includes a gear and provisions store, bar/cafe, indoor/outdoor lounge seating, and event space. Wrong Way’s “Canteen” offers a curated selection of coffee, snacks, pastries & sandwiches, beverages, local craft beer, outdoor gear, and souvenirs.
Food & Provisions: Wrong Way supplies guests and locals alike with causal, grab-and-go, chef-driven driven options for both outdoor adventures and/or hunkering down in the cabins. Led by James Beard Award semifinalist Ashley Capps and partner Travis Schulz (both of Asheville-based Newstock Pantry), the menu stays in harmony with the seasons – keeping in line with Wrong Way’s emphasis on nature and sustainability.
Event Space & Conference Room: Wrong Way’s 16 cabins and River Lodge provide flexible options for all types of group events, including reunions, parties, company retreats, and small conferences. Inside the River Lodge, an event space (“The Eddy”) can accommodate a seated dinner of 35 people or a standing party of 80, with a dedicated patio for seamless indoor/outdoor events. A separate 8-person conference room (“The Boardroom”) is available to rent for meetings, flex space, or private office time. While the main-level Canteen is available to both guests and the public, the event space and conference room can be privately reserved.
Experiences: Wrong Way’s experience program provides numerous local activities for guests, including voluntourism and owner-curated adventures.
Sustainability & Conservation Efforts: Wrong Way is a sustainable development actively contributing to Asheville’s river corridor development and revitalization efforts. With a focus on sustainable construction, products, and practices – as well as ways to give back to the community – Wrong Way is proud to offer guests visiting Asheville a lodging option that is in line with their values to travel responsibly.
