Asheville is "Climate City"
Asheville is an ideal destination for climate science-focused events and for planners seeking to incorporate climate research and expertise into their programs.
Asheville offers direct access to cutting-edge research and knowledge with its wealth of climate and data scientists, including Nobel Prize winners. The city is home to climate expertise and technical solutions providers who develop the next generation of science, data, and tools to increase our planet's resilience.
From keynote speakers to specialized workshops, planners can tap into the city's intellectual capital to create an agenda that highlights climate data, science, and solutions for forward-thinking and impactful meetings.
Asheville is situated in the midst of 1.6 million acres of maintained national forests, some of the oldest rivers in the world and is one of the most biodiverse regions of the world. Adding to this natural richness, the Federal Government maintains the oldest digital archive of climate data in the world at the National Centers for Environmental Information.

"We helped organize NOAA's Climate Prediction Applications Science Workshop in Asheville, NC in May of 2023. Asheville is an intellectual hub for many organizations working in environmental sciences and provides great opportunities for collaborations in this field. Many local organizations and businesses are active in environmental and climate resilience/sustainability efforts, which brought us great keynote speakers and off-site events. Furthermore, Asheville is a perfect location for an event like this because of its high-quality hospitality and accommodations. The local food scene was excellent and the hotel stays were very comfortable. The landscape of the Blue Ridge Mountains offers incredible views all across the city."

"I helped organize the Southern Appalachian Weather and Climate Workshop, held at the University of North Carolina - Asheville campus. The workshop brought together about 100 students, professionals, academics, and community members from the southeastern U.S. The conference was held in mid-April and it was just so beautiful!
The combination of the natural environment and the city assets themselves made for a winning combination. There were ample hotels to choose from for accommodations, with reasonable pricing. The downtown scene offered fun opportunities, and the food scene was great! Overall, the planning and the execution both were incredibly smooth and enjoyable."
