Comprehensive and entertaining, this walking tour captures the past of the "Paris of the South". Come along on a walking tour of the Montford Historic District, Asheville's first historic district, or learn about the diverse architecture and shopkeepers who were the foundation of downtown Asheville's development. Both tours will take you inside key sites. You can also stroll or drive the winding paths of a Victorian rural garden cemetery on a visit to Riverside Cemetery. Within rests the famous and the infamous, including Thomas Wolfe and O. Henry. A self guided tour of Riverside Cemetery is also available at the Asheville Visitors Center on CD. Also, a MP3 file is downloadable from www.history-at-hand.com, or as an iphone application. All guided tours are by appointment to allow the greatest flexibility in scheduling.
